Special Transit

A specialized, shared-ride, door-to-door transportation service for persons with disabilities who qualify through a functional assessment and have registered with MHT. Available for persons, who due to a physical and/or mental disability, can not use the regular public transit system.

Hours of Operation:
Monday to Saturday from 6:45 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

A limited Sunday service is available on demand at a cost of $6.00 per person on each way of a trip.

Peak hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday when priority is given to persons going to work or school. Consideration for other scheduled bookings will be given for trips between 9:00 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on these days.

Registration:
Registration forms for Special Transit are available at the MH Transit office located at 333 6th Ave SE or a printed version is available above. Completed forms should be returned to MH Transit Office located at 333 6th Ave SE or Fax to 403.527.5844.

Booking of Trips:
Please contact MHT at 403.529.8214.

All trips must be booked by noon the day before a planned trip (Monday – Friday). Bookings may be made up to 14 days prior to a planned trip and priority is given to school, work, and medical trips. Advance bookings allow for the maximum number of trips to be accommodated on this shared-ride service.

Special Transit can be used for shopping, recreation, and social trips. Individuals or organizations can also charter Special Transit buses.

Passenger Courtesies and Responsibilities:
• Be prompt and ready at the scheduled pick-up time.
• To operate most efficiently, Special Transit works within a 20 minute window, so the bus may arrive between 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after the requested pick up time.
• It is essential that an attendant accompany you if you need assistance (e.g. entering buses or exiting buses or leaving/entering your destination points).
• All passengers and attendants must use the seat belts provided.
• All wheelchair users must be seat belted in their chairs.
• All wheelchairs and scooters must be securely fastened.
• If you need to cancel your trip, please notify the MHT office, 403.529.8214, as soon as possible to avoid being charged for the trip.
