Kensington Foot Bridge Rehabilitation

The Municipal Works Department at the City of Medicine Hat recently evaluated the condition of the Kensington foot bridge over Ajax coulee. The evaluation determined that the bridge foundations are being eroded and pose a significant risk to the stability and safety of the bridge.

During the bridge closure, Municipal Works has assessed the condition of the Kensington foot bridge and developed a plan for corrective measures. The slopes under the foundations will be reshaped in order to add stability to the slopes that support the bridge. In addition to the slope repairs the storm water around the bridge will be controlled and safely released into the storm water conveyance below the bridge.

The areas below the Kensington footbridge are closed to public access. Residents who use this area are urged to find alternative routes and stay clear of the closed areas. All rear access is maintained, however travel under the bridge is not permitted.

The bridge is open to the public. The remaining lane and trail work will be completed by the end of September 2010.
