The Planning, Building and Development department administer all business licenses for the City of Medicine Hat.

• No person may carry out a business within the city limits of Medicine Hat without a valid business license.
• If you operate more than one store, branch, or premises, you must have a separate business license for each.
• Business license and a development permit are required for all home occupations. The business license for a home occupations must be renewed every year. Renewal must occur by the anniversary date of the original application for the license. The development permit must be renewed every 3 years.
• Canvassers, peddlers, and transient traders MUST have a criminal record check done by the Medicine Hat Police Service at the time they apply for a business license.

Applications for business licenses may be made at the Planning, Building and Development department between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Monday – Friday).
