The City of Medicine Hat strives to achieve its vision to be a "community of choice" - a place where people choose to work and play.

We are the sunniest city in Canada, with mild winters, friendly people and a vast array of business, industry and services to keep Medicine Hat self-sufficient.

Our population is approximately 61,097 (2009 City Census) people. Medicine Hat strives to balance the economic, social and environmental values that make it a great place to live and work.

The City's forefathers invested and developed natural gas and electrical utilities in the early 1900s. Stewardship and sound strategic business decisions have resulted in what locals call the "Medicine Hat Advantage" - some of the lowest utility rates in Alberta and the lowest property taxes in Canada, as well as a quality of life that is hard to match.

The city offers a wealth of amenities and facilities, friendly people, safe streets, and an enviable climate. We are active in arts and culture and home to the world class Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre, Medicine Hat Clay Industries National Historic District, and the 18-storey high Saamis Tepee.

If you enjoy ice, water or sun Medicine Hat has something for every season.
