According to the 2015 City of Medicine Hat census, the unofficial population is 63,018, a 3% growth of 1,838 residents since 2012.

For the first time, residents were able to submit returns online which 40% did over a period of eleven weeks, rather than the usual three weeks. Also, this year the census counted every dwelling in the city.

"This is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to the hard work of the census team and the participation of the community," said Angela Cruickshank, City Clerk. "The count equates to approximately $15.88 million dollars in grant funding for the community."

The last municipal census in 2012 tallied 61,180 residents while counting 98% of dwellings.

The count is still subject to approval by the province. Detailed official population figures will be shared publicly early fall.
