The Information & Computer Services (ICS) Department is focused on promoting, enabling and leading appropriate technology solutions that are aligned with City Council goals and objectives to improve and enhance City services.
ICS is comprised of three key service areas which include:
- Application Services
- Client Services
- Technical Services
Application Services assists City departments with analyzing their business and GIS opportunities, and then assists with finding and implementing an appropriate solution to address their needs and requirements; provide programming and integration services when appropriate; manage the use and implementation of the City’s GIS software, tools and databases; support and enhance existing applications; ensure users within the organization are knowledgeable and using GIS technology effectively; continue to find new and innovative ways to apply GIS and other technologies, allowing departments to maximize their resources.
Client Services is to provide City users and departments with computer technical support; provide hardware maintenance services; update operating system and application software on workstations; assist with establishing technical computing standards for computers, setup and manage user accounts and network access, e-mail etc.; coordinate and provide end user PC training; manage Data Centre operations; manage City printers/copiers; as well as the centralized Print Shop environment.
Technical Services is to ensure the security and integrity of the City’s computing infrastructure and data; provides data base administration services; designs, manages and supports the city’s network and server environment; investigates and implements new technologies that may benefit the City; provides and manages internet and intranet services; and provides technical support and IT advice to City departments.
