Medicine Hat Landfill
The City of Medicine Hat owns and operates a municipal solid waste landfill located approximately three kilometres off Highway 41A, just passed the city limits. Please refer to Hours and Location for more specific information. The facility accepts residential and commercial waste; construction and demolition waste; clean fill; old tires; appliances such as stoves, refrigerators and washers; scrap cars; garden and yard waste; and household hazardous waste. The landfill also accepts certain types of industrial waste.
Please note: The disposal of household hazardous waste is only available to residents. Commercial vendors must dispose of their hazardous waste through a certified service provider.

Bagged Compost for Sale
The Landfill scale house also sells SureGrow Compost produced by the City of Medicine Hat. SureGrow is suitable for landscaping projects and gardening, and is a popular soil amendment product. Bagged quantities are available for sale at the Landfill scale house.
Bulk product can be purchased by locally licensed landscape companies through contract sales orders.
The landfill usage rate continues to increase due to a growing population and a growing economy. To maximize the life of our current landfill and to be really effective, we have to incorporate the 4Rs, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover into our daily routine.
