Burnside Natural Trail Grand Opening
Ribbon cutting ceremony May 25 at 2:30
Medicine Hat - In honour of World Environment Day the City of Medicine Hat and Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Burnside Natural Trail on Thursday, May 25th at 2:30 pm (located at the west end of Third Street NW, off-ramp on Trans Canada Highway).
Burnside Trail is a 5.6 km long multi-use natural trail that was constructed in the fall of 2016. It is a multi-use trail with a dirt surface, and is constructed to International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) standards which address slope and drainage. This trail is considered a “green” (easy) trail by the IMBA, and is suitable for beginners and those that like wider trails.
The trail was built as part of the South Saskatchewan River Recreational Opportunities Project. Trail connectivity and mountain biking opportunities were both in the top 5 opportunities identified in the recreation opportunities Assessment.
This is the first trail connection to Redcliff, which connects with existing mountain bike trails already in the town
The 670 Collective Mountain Bike Club worked in partnership with the Parks and Recreation, as well as Land and Business Development to provide a preliminary alignment of the proposed trail and in the design process.
Mountain bike enthusiasts are encouraged to download the “Trail Forks App” (www.trailforks.com) which is one of the largest open Mountain Bike databases in North America.
Find your nature. Get adventurous. Learn to love the natural world. With World Environment Day on June 5, everyone is invited to connect to nature at the Burnside Trail and share their stories using the hashtag "WithNature.
