Medicine Hat – On June 29, 2017 beginning at 4 p.m., the City of Medicine Hat’s Heritage Resources Committee in conjunction with the City of Medicine Hat and the City Centre Development Agency is inviting everyone to attend plaque unveiling ceremonies to mark the historic designations of the First Street South Municipal Historic Area and the Monarch Theatre.
These plaque unveilings provide an occasion to learn more about the architectural, heritage, and cultural value of the city’s historic resources. The ceremonies will begin on First Street SE near the River Dental Gazebo and continue immediately at the Monarch Theatre. Light refreshments, complements of The Society of the Friends of the Monarch will be served following the plaque unveiling at the Monarch Theatre.
The Heritage Resources Committee (HRC) was formed in January 2010, as a Committee of Council, to carry out their role in advising Council on all matters relating to heritage resources in the City of Medicine Hat. One of the key roles of the HRC is to evaluate requests for designation of sites/resources and recommend designation to City Council. The HRC has been very active in preserving the city’s heritage resources for future generations.
