South Flats Construction Update

Post Date:11/02/2017 1:31 PM
Work has been progressing steadily on South Railway Street SE (South Flats) project which is the largest road and deep utility project for the City of Medicine Hat this year.  The Contractor has worked diligently to ensure ongoing access to businesses and smooth traffic flow has been maintained throughout the construction season.

To date, the majority of construction work has been completed.  As this time of year marks the end of the construction season, a decision has been made to complete the remaining work next spring (from Allowance Ave. overpass to Kingsway Ave SE).  The decision is based on weather, materials availability, and traffic safety, as proceeding with construction beyond the end of October is risky due to the possibility of freeze-up.

South Railway Street SE is a key part of our transportation network and our priority is to ensure it is open and safe for the winter.  Everything is in place to complete the remaining part of the project next spring, including having the Contractor ready to resume work quickly and efficiently when weather permits.

Once completed, this infrastructure upgrade will provide many benefits to be enjoyed by the entire community in the years to come.

The City recognizes and appreciates the patience and support shown by the local businesses and commuting public throughout this very important infrastructure upgrade project.  Any questions can be directed to Sandeep Pareek, Planning Engineer, City of Medicine Hat Municipal Works Department (403) 529-8177.
