Veiner Centre Grand Re-Opening
Medicine Hat – The grand re-opening of the Veiner Centre will take place July 24, 2018 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to the ribbon cutting event and then to take part in self-guided tours and light refreshments.
The $11.95 million investment in building renovation and construction will house a new commercial kitchen, dining room, small table activities/presentation room, a multi-purpose/presentation room, administration and community outreach office, meeting rooms, games room, craft room and seasonal outdoor space. The Strathcona Centre will house the more physically active programming, including a fitness room, leveraging the existing recreational amenities of the building, pool and adjacent park.
“We know our seniors community is excited to get into the new space,” said Howard Snodgrass, Community Development General Manager. “The building renovation and construction provides for flexible, multi-use space, which will allow us to maximize opportunities for programming and services at the Veiner and Strathcona Centres for existing and future generations.”
The new hours of service and fee structure were established after consultation with the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee and the clubs that use the Veiner and Strathcona facilities. The fee structure includes a base fee for all members regardless of frequency of use and an additional fee for fitness room use.
The Strathcona Centre will close July 16 to finalize the transition to the Veiner Centre. The Strathcona Centre will remain closed until fall as construction begins on improvements to the Centre. During this period, club activities will be accommodated in other facilities and the Fitness Centre at Crestwood will remain open.
The first full day of operations for the Veiner Centre will be July 25, 2018.
