Fire Station #1 Grand Opening
Medicine Hat – The public is invited to attend the grand opening of Fire Station #1, where they will have the opportunity to visit the new, modern facility built to enhance service delivery to residents.
The grand opening will be held Thursday October 11 at 2 p.m. The event will begin with a short program, including remarks from dignitaries and a fire service style ribbon cutting. Following the program, tours will be available to the public until 6:30 p.m.
“This fire station relocation is the second of two significant steps in improving service delivery to our residents. Strategically located, it will improve response coverage into Parkview, Ranchlands, Crescent Heights, and Riverside, while maintaining response coverage into the Flats, Downtown, and SE Hill areas,” says Brian Stauth, Fire Chief.
Located at 401 Parkview Drive NE, the move allows Fire Services to:
• Maximize response coverage for a greater percentage of Medicine Hat residents.
• Delay the need for construction and operation of additional fire stations through more effective and efficient use of existing resources.
Construction of the $8,250,000 fire station began in May of 2017, and operations were moved from the Maple Avenue location at the beginning of September, 2018. The station houses equipment for responding to fires, rescues, and water rescue incidents, along with a full crew of four firefighters 24/7.
Public parking will not be available on site during the grand opening event. A shuttle bus service will be available from the Family Leisure Centre to Station #1 at no cost. The shuttle will run every 20 minutes between 1:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
