Celebrate Earth Day with Parks & Recreation

Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat Parks and Recreation department wants you to celebrate Earth Day this weekend by helping to beautify our city.

A litter blitz will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Medicine Hat Parks Building at 88 Kipling Street SE where bags and gloves can be picked up. An earlier pickup time can also be arranged.

The South East Alberta Watershed Alliance (SEAWA) is also hosting a litter blitz and weed removal at the Connaught Pond, near Primrose Drive SE, beginning at 10 a.m.

All volunteers will receive free coffee and donuts in the morning and lunch at the Parks Building.

Also happening:

  • Yoga in the Park. Bring your own mat and connect with nature during the free session provided by Kindred Yoga. Kin Coulee Band Shelter from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • The Medicine Hat Library is offering a free screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary If a Tree Falls: A story of the Earth Liberation Front. Earth Day, April 22, at 7:00 p.m.

In the spirit of Earth Day, please consider walking, biking or carpooling to the events. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring water bottles, reusable dishes and utensils to help reduce waste.
