Seniors’ Week 2019

Medicine Hat – June 2 - 8 is Seniors’ Week in Alberta. Seniors’ Week is an important opportunity for seniors to be recognized for their past contributions to the foundation of our community, as well as their ongoing participation in making our neighbourhoods vibrant and dynamic.

This year, Medicine Hat was chosen from communities across Alberta to co-host the Seniors’ Week Provincial Launch. Please consider joining this exciting celebration, as well as some of the other events taking place at the Veiner Centre during this celebration!

Monday
Pancake Breakfast – 8:30am – 9:45am
The morning will start with a pancake breakfast served in the back parking lot of the Veiner Centre.

Seniors’ Week Provincial Launch Ceremony – 10:00am – 11:15am
The Minister of Seniors and Housing, Josephine Pon, will proclaim Seniors’ Week in the province of Alberta and there will be a short program recognizing the contribution of seniors to our community.

Connecting in Your Community Resource Fair – 9:00am – 12:00pm
Organizations from throughout the city will be promoting the great opportunities to get out into the community and be active.

Dedication of Art Installation – 11:30am – 12:00pm
The public art installation “Prairie Shoots” will be dedicated in front of the Veiner Centre. Artist Andy Davies will be present.

Tuesday
Tracing Our Roots – 10:00am – 12:00pm
Learn about tracing your lineage from Medicine Hat and beyond in this engaging presentation by Philip Pype from the Esplanade Archives and Debra Wickham from the Genealogical Society.

Wednesday
Movie Matinee - 12:30 pm
“The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared”

Thursday
Seniors’ Week BBQ – 11:30am – 1:30pm
Come for a delicious meal of hamburgers with all the fixings, barbeque chicken and dessert.

Friday
Introduction to Visual Journaling – 10:00am – 12:00pm
Renee Dowling from Reflections Art Studio will lead a class on documenting one’s journey through writing and art.
