Celebrating Canada Historic Places Day
Ewart Duggan House and Historic Walking Tour
Medicine Hat – With lots of wonderful history to celebrate and share, the City’s Heritage Resources Committee is promoting Canada’s Historic Places Day on July 6, 2019, by offering a tour of the Ewart Duggan House Provincial Historic Resource. The tour of the house will be offered at the conclusion of the First Street South Municipal Historic Area walking tour.
The tour will begin at the Esplanade at 1 pm. Register for the tour by purchasing a walking tour booklet at the Esplanade box office for $5.00. Included with the purchase is a one hour guided tour of the SE section of the First Street South Municipal Historic Area. The walking tour will end with an inside tour of the Ewart Duggan House. The house was constructed in 1887 and may be the oldest standing brick house in the province.
Although not registered as an official attraction for Canada Historic Places Day, the HRC are pleased to encourage everyone to take the time to visit and enjoy Canada’s historic places. In conjunction, the HRC will have on display the week of July 2 to July 5, in the Helen Beny Gibson Lounge at City Hall, panels from their last two open houses on some of the City’s Historic Inventory and Saratoga Park.
