Trail Closures Due to Heavy Rainfall

Post Date:06/28/2019 1:23 PM
Medicine Hat – Due to heavy rainfall a number of trails have sediment covering portions of the asphalt either making them impassable or creating trail hazards.

The Northwest Riverside Trail has become impassable due to rocks and mud that released due to the heavy rainfall.  The trail is closed from the Trans-Canada Highway east to 5 Avenue NW and there is no access from 3 Street NW south towards the Northwest Riverside Trail.  Please obey all signage and do not attempt to access trail as there are a number of hazards in the area.

The trail underpass from the Trans-Canada Bridge on the south side of the river that goes into Kiwanis River Park is also closed due to sediment and mud build up.

City crews are working on clean up and restoration plans; an anticipated reopening of these trails is unknown at this time.  The Parks and Recreation Department will provide updates as we know the timelines for restoration.
