Park Traffic Accommodations for Strathcona Island 'parkrun'
Medicine Hat – As part of the launch of the Strathcona Island parkun, temporary park road controls will be in effect starting August 3, 2019, at 8:00 am and occurring every Saturday on the road near the Strathcona Island boat launch parking lot.
Park access will be limited from 8:00 am to approximately 12:00 pm each Saturday to ensure the safety of all runners. There will be limited and controlled access to the east end parking lots, spray park, Lovell McDonnell Field and Heritage Pavilion during this time.
It is anticipated that trails will see an increased volume of runners and walkers during these hours. Trail users not participating in the event are asked to slow down, use caution and yield to all runners in Strathcona Island Park during this time.
Motorists are reminded to obey all posted signs, event volunteers, and to take extra caution while driving in Strathcona Island Park area, due to the volume of runners crossing one portion of the road intermediately throughout the morning.
This event will not occur when other community runs or walks are taking place (i.e. Water Run, Rattler Run, River Run, etc.) or when the weather or trail conditions are unfavorable.
The City of Medicine Hat supports this community volunteer initiative, as it promotes our trail system, active living, social connectedness and inclusiveness.
parkrun is a free event and is open to any walker or runner in the community.
