DoubleMap Connecting Riders with Transit

Post Date:10/25/2019 9:45 AM

Medicine Hat – A recently launched app and website continues to help riders of Medicine Hat Transit navigate our bus system on a daily basis.

The DoubleMap app and website launched on April 2, 2019. The technology uses built-in GPS tracking, which allows users to see exactly where their bus is in real-time, from their computer, tablet or smart phone. The app and website also provide announcements, including disruptions to service which may impact a rider’s trip, allowing them time to plan accordingly.

“We have heard some great feedback from the Transit riders in our community,” said Simon Amos, Manager of Community Access. “The app is able to provide real-time information which can be accessed right from the palm of your hand. That can be quite empowering for some of our daily users.”

The DoubleMap app is available for free from the App Store for Apple Devices and from the Google Play Store for Android. Users may also access the website from their smart phones and tablets, as well as a computer.

“We have been working closely with our partners in the community, including REDI Enterprises, who are able to work with their clients, many of who rely on MH Transit,” Amos added.

“I take the bus just about every day. It gets me from home to work, to my appointments and to the grocery store,” said Linda McDonald, a client with REDI. “I can set alerts in the app, which will have it notify me when the bus is five minutes away. That way I don’t have to wait outside, especially in the cold.”

“The app makes it really easy to see where the bus is, from where I’m standing,” said Cor Stikker, a client with REDI, who has shown his friends how easy the app is to use.

“It’s a great tool that we’re able to use to help our clients,” said Gord Laskey-Roest, a disability service worker with REDI Enterprises. “It helps teach necessary time management skills and is incredibly helpful to many of the clients we serve on a daily basis.”

Additional information about the app and website can be found on the City’s website.

A live demonstration of how the Transit App and website works will be set up at the Great West Home & Leisure Show, from Friday, October 25, to Sunday, October 27.
