City Announces Long Term Recycling Service Provider
Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat has agreed to a 10-year agreement with the firm Green For Life Environmental Inc. (GFL) to collect, process and market residential recycling.
“It is important to both the City and residents that the recycling program continues and is sustainable at a reasonable cost,” notes Lora Brenan, General Manager of Environmental Utilities. “We would also like to assure residents that there will be no changes to current programs regarding residential recycling with this new partnership.”
The City issued a request for proposals for a long-term recycling service provider in October of 2019. GFL was awarded the contract as their proposal was evaluated as the strongest overall compared to other respondents. Their ability to market the recycled material in the global market was a contributing factor in their success.
“We want to thank our residents for their continued dedication to recycling as it reduces the amount of waste going to the landfill,” Brenan added. “We look forward to a long-term recycling partnership and recognize the importance of this program to our residents and our commitment to the environmental sustainability of our waste disposal site. “
