Tree Removal and Riverside Rink Construction
Medicine Hat – Please be advised the Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting tree removal operations on Monday, June 1 in Heald Park.
Several Siberian Elm trees, as well as one white Spruce tree, will be removed in order to accommodate the relocation of the Riverside rink. These trees were assessed by a City arborist and it was determined that several of the trees have deteriorated and their removal is necessary. Nearby trees in the area will be removed for the relocation project. It is believed that scheduled construction could put these trees in a further state of decline.
These trees will be replaced with new ones within our parks system at a later date, with location(s) still to be determined. The replanting will be at a ratio of 3:1 minimum and take place once the rink has been relocated.

During construction, the public is advised to obey all signs in the area and to remain a safe distance from any construction activities. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on 2nd Avenue during this time. Motorists are asked to drive with caution when in the area.
