Kipling and Spencer Street Corridor Rehabilitation Resumes June 17

Medicine Hat – On Wednesday, June 17, construction resumes on the remaining phases of a multi-year rehabilitation project to upgrade water and sewer mains in the Spencer Street SE area. Work also includes a full road rehabilitation, including geometry improvements and intersection upgrades.

Starting June 17, Kipling Street SE/Spencer Street SE will be closed to through traffic from 3 Avenue SE to Kingsway Avenue SE. This major infrastructure upgrade is expected to last until the fall. Residents may follow the progress of the project on the City's website.

Motorists are advised to plan routes in advance and to follow detours directing them around the construction area. During construction, all area residents and businesses will continue to have local access to their properties.

Resident and Business Access and Services

  • Area residents and businesses will continue to have access to their properties. 
  • Businesses will remain open and modified local access will be provided during construction. Access points for local traffic will change as the project progresses through each phase of construction. Public parking will be provided in the designated area.
  • Full water and sewer services will remain operational throughout this construction project, with the exception of emergency activities and scheduled short duration interruptions. 

Traffic Detours 

  • Detours will be provided to direct traffic around the construction area. 
  • Motorists are advised to plan their routes ahead of time. 
  • Please follow all traffic signs and detours related to the ongoing construction.

Safety and Pedestrian Access

  • The contractor will be placing a perimeter fence to ensure public safety and pedestrian access around the construction area. For your safety please respect signs and fencing.
