Parking Lot Upgrades to Saamis Teepee Site Begin This Week
Medicine Hat – The Saamis Teepee public parking lot will undergo lifecycle repairs and minor upgrades starting Thursday, October 15, 2020, until approximately Friday, October 30, 2020, dependent on weather. There will be limited access to the parking lot during this time.
Improvements to the parking lot include a new accessibility ramp and parking stalls, removal of some bollards, new curbs, parking stops, and site levelling. Crews will also work to repair cracks and depressions and add new parking lines.
Although the Teepee parking lot will have limited access, the areas directly below and around the Teepee will remain open. The Visitor Information Centre, including the picnic, playground area and the sanitary dumping station will also remain open during this time.
Originally constructed for the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics, the Saamis Teepee is a tribute to Canada’s native heritage. Built entirely of steel with a concrete foundation, the teepee is ringed with 10 large circular story-boards depicting aspects of native culture and history.
