Community Support
The Community Resource Worker Program works to support individuals, children, youth, seniors and families in finding the supports and resources they need. We work to increase community connectivity through various programs that help people gain a sense of empowerment, independence, inclusion and community.
Recreation and transit support program for refugees and Ukrainian evacuees
In May 2022, City of Medicine Hat City Council approved a recommendation to support Ukrainian evacuees who are coming to Medicine Hat, as well as refugees settling in Medicine Hat (within the past year) in conjunction with any Government of Canada Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship program.
This means that families and individuals that qualify for the program are eligible for up to three (3) FREE Transit and three (3) FREE 31-Day Recreation passes (individual or family). Families and individuals are only eligible for this program while they have active government-assisted refugee status.
Those that qualify for the program include:
1) Individuals that fall under one of the two categories for eligibility:
a) Government, church or Group of 5 sponsored refugee; or
b) status of Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET)
and
2) Entered the country as of June 1, 2022
and
3) The Individual/family is currently residing in Medicine Hat
