Fire Prevention Week

Do you have working smoke alarms in your home? Working smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire in half.

Fire Prevention Week is October 6 - 12, 2024. This year's campaign is "Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!", which strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.

Roughly three out of five fire deaths happen in homes with either no smoke alarms or no WORKING smoke alarms. - National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

Fire moves fast. You and your family may have less than two minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Here are 3 tips:

  1. Have working smoke alarms.
  2. Develop a home fire escape plan and practice it at least twice a year.
  3. Make sure everyone knows the sound of the smoke alarm and what to do when it sounds. Get out and stay out.
