8 Street SE Water and Sewer Rehabilitation
Project Description
This project will undertake construction for the renewal and upgrades of ageing sanitary sewer, water mains, storm sewer and adjacent infrastructure, and replacement of road structure on 8 Street SE from the intersection of 2 Avenue SE to 4 Avenue SE.

Timing and Traffic Accommodations
Construction began May 27, 2024 and is anticipated to last until approximately October 2024.
Stage 1 – Traffic and pedestrian detours in place. Motorists and pedestrians detour on 1 Avenue SE, 7 Street or 9 Street SE, and 4 Avenue SE.
Stage 2 – Traffic and pedestrian detours in place. Motorists and pedestrians detour on 2 Avenue SE, 7 Street or 9 Street SE, and 4 Avenue SE.
Stage 3 – Traffic and pedestrian detours in place. Motorists and pedestrians detour on 2 Avenue SE, 7 Street or 9 Street SE, and 5 Avenue SE.
Benefits
This project will modernize underground infrastructure, and improve the motorist and pedestrian experience. Some of the highlighted benefits include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Replacing a significant amount of sidewalk, curb and gutter within the construction area
Notifications
Local residents have received direct communication via hand-delivered notices or property visits from the City or contractor if any services like water, sewer, or power will be disrupted, or if access to personal property is restricted.
Updates about the project will be shared through the City's social media accounts, by public advisory and on this webpage.
Safety
Detour and traffic signs have been posted in the area where crews are working. Pedestrian access has also been detoured around the construction zone for the duration of this project.
Please follow all posted signage and exercise caution around the work zone.
