Multi-Court Pickleball Facility

Project Description

Community members approached the City about the development of a multi-court facility for one of the fastest growing sports in North America.

Funding for this project comes from the Municipal Stimulus Program, a Government of Alberta initiative as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Timing & Traffic Accommodations

Construction began in the spring of 2021 and is expected to be completed by the end of the construction season.

During this time, the FLC will remain open to pass holders and the public.

Parking for the facility and surrounding amenities will also be accessible throughout construction.

Pickleball has grown in popularity over the last several years in Medicine Hat. It is a sport everyone can play, regardless of ability or age, and keeps people active at all stages of life.

The new courts provide an opportunity to host regional, provincial and national level tournaments, in addition, options for clubs, leagues, schools, as well as the community.

Updates about the project will be shared through the City's social media accounts.

Fencing and signs will be posted in the area when crews are working. Residents are reminded to use caution around any equipment.

Additional Information

In order to accommodate construction of the pickleball facility and the expanded parking lot, the playground at the FLC will be temporarily removed. Work on the design and location is underway and staff will be looking to share ideas with the public in the coming months, with the intended placement completed in 2022.
