We would like to thank all applicants for applying to work the Municipal Election.  We are no longer accepting applications.

We are evaluating our standard election procedures to understand what additional measures will be required to ensure the safety of voters and election workers during a pandemic. We will ensure voting stations and procedures are safe for voters and election staff. We will also provide all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for workers.

Position Descriptions

Presiding Deputy Returning Officer (PDRO)

Training manual

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise voting station and workers while maintaining order within voting station.
  • Supervise and assist with set up of voting station one hour before opening of polls.
  • Distribute ballots packages to Deputy Returning Officers.
  • Meet and greet voters and ensure they have their ID, answer questions and concerns.
  • Have a good understanding of each position within the voting station. Ensures election workers fulfill their duties.
  • Observe Candidates’ Agents and Scrutineers.
  • Ensure proper closing of voting station and return materials to City Hall.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Basic literacy skills and interpersonal skills including ability to exercise impartiality.
  • Experience in dealing with the public and conflict resolution.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work a long day. 

Remuneration

$400.00, includes mandatory training

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

Key Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Presiding Deputy Returning Officer.
  • Set up voting station one hour before opening of polls with necessary supplies.
  • Process voters by checking ID, assist with registration forms and issue ballot to eligible voters.
  • Ensure proper closing of voting station.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Basic literacy skills and interpersonal skills including ability to exercise impartiality.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Be tactful and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work a long day. 

Remuneration

$260.00, includes mandatory training

Voting Tabulator Returning Officer (VTRO)

Key Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Presiding Deputy Returning Officer.
  • Set up electronic voting machine one hour before opening of polls.
  • Assist voter with scanning of ballots ensuring confidentiality of the vote.
  • Ensure proper closing of the voting station and return materials to City Hall.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Basic literacy skills and interpersonal skills including ability to exercise impartiality.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Be tactful and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work a long day.
  • Technical aptitude required with touch screen.

Remuneration

$260.00, includes mandatory training 

Cleaner

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for cleaning of confidentiality sleeves, voting kiosks and other general cleaning duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.
  • Ability to work a long day.
