Basement Water or Seepage

Ground water seeping into basements can cause significant water damage to property and be costly for homeowners.

Leave the house immediately if: 
- You smell natural gas 
- Water has reached the electrical outlets 
- Your neighbourhood is under an evacuation notice

Flooded basement

Do not enter a flooded basement until the fire department, utility service or licensed electrician has determined that it is safe.

Basement flooding is the responsibility of the homeowner.


Sanitary sewer backup

If the cause of the flooding is believed to be due to a sanitary sewer backup, you may contact either a private plumbing or drain cleaning service, or the Water and Sewer Emergency line at 403-502-8042. There is a fee to have City operators attend to clear sewer blockages on private property. This service is available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., seven days a week.
