Bulk Recycling Depots
There are three bulk recycling depots located throughout Medicine Hat. Residents and businesses that are not part of the Residential Recycling Program or those who have oversized recyclables can take their recyclable materials to one of the drop-off depots.
Hours
Recycling drop-off depots are open to the public 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
Accepted materials
The following materials are accepted:
- Newspaper
- Mixed paper
- Cardboard
- Aluminum and tin
- Plastics 1-7 (see the recycling symbol on the item to find the number)
- Glass
Glass is accepted at the drop-off depots. Please do not place glass in blue residential recycling carts.
Items NOT accepted at the drop-off depots include Styrofoam, organic (food and yard waste), garbage and household hazardous waste (HHW).
Dispose of Styrofoam, food waste garbage in your household garbage cart.
Other items such as household hazardous waste, e-waste, paint and oil can be recycled by taking them to the Waste Management Facility for proper diversion.
Yard waste materials can be recycled when collected from your yard waste cart or when self-hauled to the landfill.
HHW should be taken to the Waste Management Facility for proper disposal.
Where does this recycling go?
The recycling depot cannisters are collected by GFL Environmental Inc. and processed for shipping.
Paper may go to a de-inking facility. Plastic is marketed to a buyer who cleans it, makes it into pellets, and then sells the pellets to an end user who will use them to make everyday products.
