Cost Pressure Relief Program
On September 5, 2023, City Council authorized $33.2 million in relief to address hardships related to rising costs of living and other inflationary pressures.
The program is a temporary measure that will be administered through utility accounts for the most efficient and cost-effective delivery. A separate method of distribution will apply for units represented by a single meter held by a condo association or other housing-based associations.
Residential relief - $26 million |
Residential utility account holders within the City of Medicine Hat's franchise area will receive a total of $800 each distributed as follows:
Residential units represented by a single-metered condo association and other housing-based association are eligible for the relief. No application necessary. These credits are applied automatically to your utility statement. |
Small and medium businesses - $7.1 million |
Small and medium business utility accounts within the City of Medicine Hat's franchise area will receive a total of $2,000 each distributed as follows:

Waived late penalty, NSF and disconnect notice fees |
The City of Medicine Hat will automatically waive the following fees on all utility accounts from June 1, 2023 to September 18, 2023, inclusive:
There is no need to apply for this relief. If a customer has already been charged one of these fees after June 1, 2023, a credit will appear on the customer's first bill after September 18, 2023. |
Residents who do not need this support are encouraged to donate their relief amount to the Community Warmth program to assist those in need.
