Electric Applications
Requesting a new power service, or an alteration to your current service, is easy, but the engineering and design process is complex. We will work together with you to safely deliver electricity to your property.
If you are a developer working on a new subdivision, please visit the subdivision planning page.
Your application will help us determine your service size, the meter configuration, and an appropriate cost estimate for your new electrical service.
Standard electric utility service charges: effective March 1, 2023
Apply for residential electric service
We can install or upgrade one hundred and two hundred amp residential services as a standard charge without a full engineering package. Should your electrician's load calculation indicate you need a service larger than 200 amps, please apply as a commercial service.
Once we receive the application, one of our project leaders will reach out to confirm information and plan the work. Keep in mind that each new service requires an electrical permit.
Residential service upgrades
Residential service upgrades that require the City of Medicine Hat to upgrade infrastructure require a non-refundable $500 engineering assessment fee prior to proceeding with the work. The assessment fee goes toward the initial design utilized to provide the quote for the applicant. Should the applicant choose to proceed with the work after receiving the quote, the assessment fee and associated preliminary design are incorporated into the final work and related charges.
