Air service survey launched for Medicine Hat residents

Medicine Hat – Medicine Hat residents are invited to provide feedback about the community’s demand, needs and wants with respect to air service from the Medicine Hat Regional Airport (YXH) through an online survey.

Take the survey from the City's Shape Your City page at https://shapeyourcity.medicinehat.ca/

The survey is open until Friday, June 2, 2023. Responses are confidential and results will be summarized to protect data integrity.

“We are always looking to improve air service and the passenger experience for residents and travelers who visit Medicine Hat and the surrounding area,” said Logan Boyd, airport manager. “Gauging the community’s existing methods of travel, in addition to business and leisure air service needs is an ongoing effort that we revisit frequently to assist in shaping our priorities when we communicate with air carriers and other airport stakeholders.”

The resident survey is just one part of an air service restoration plan (ASRP) – a comprehensive effort initiated in 2022 to update the City of Medicine Hat’s air service strategy for YXH. The project includes stakeholder consultation, a passenger survey, this resident survey, and thorough market analysis.

“The air travel industry was devastated by the pandemic,” adds Boyd. “This unique redefining phase across the sector presents a timely opportunity to understand how people plan to travel after such unprecedented restrictions and circumstances. We look forward to developing strategies to meet the expectations of our community.”

The City is working with 7th Wave Airport Management Consultants on the ASRP. The public may follow the progress of the project on the City’s Shape Your City page.

At a frequency of 21 departures per week, WestJet Airlines provides air service from Medicine Hat Regional Airport (YXH) to Calgary International Airport (YYC) with one-stop connections to the rest of WestJet’s expansive and growing network of destinations. The route is served by the Saab 340 aircraft with a maximum capacity of 34 total seats.
