Become informed ahead of the 2025 municipal election
Medicine Hat – Now that the dust has settled on Canada’s federal election, residents can turn their attention to Medicine Hat’s 2025 municipal election. Preparations are well underway for election day on Monday, October 20 and the City of Medicine Hat aims to prepare voters and prospective candidates with important and relevant information.
“We want to support our residents, both with the logistical information on how to exercise their right to vote and why their vote matters, as well as education about what our City Council is responsible for,” said City Clerk Tarolyn Aaserud. “Similarly, we want those who are considering a run for office to be fully aware of what the role involves.”
The 2025 election determines the City of Medicine Hat’s Mayor and eight Councillors, five Trustees for the Medicine Hat Public School Division, and five Trustees for the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education, each for a four-year term from October 2025 to October 2029.
The City’s election website, medicinehat.ca/election, will be updated regularly as the nomination period progresses.
For prospective candidates, the website includes step-by-step instructions on the nomination process, information on the roles and responsibilities of an elected official, and important resources like school board guides, the Municipal Government Act, Medicine Hat’s Municipal Development Plan, and other key strategies, reports and plans.
The website also contains an up-to-date candidate list, voter information with a list of frequently asked questions, and past election results.
