BMGC’s Kinsmen Aquatic Park construction continues into October, Hill Pool operating hours extended

Medicine Hat – As upgrades to the Kinsmen Aquatic Park (KAP) at the Big Marble Go Centre (BMGC) progress, the City of Medicine Hat has granted a construction extension to accommodate supply chain challenges along the way.

Big Marble Go Centre Kinsmen Aquatic Park

Originally slated to reopen mid-September, the KAP is now scheduled to open to the public on Oct. 11, 2024. BMGC patrons may notice the pools filling with water as early as Sept. 20 but may be surprised to know that it takes at least one full week to fill the KAP from empty. Once full, regulatory water sampling and laboratory testing is required before the pool can be cleared for public use. During this time, staff will be trained to operate the new pool systems.

Staff are actively working with regular swim groups to minimize impacts to their programs.

The membership and admission fee adjustments in place for construction will also be extended until Oct. 11.

Hill Pool summer operating hours extended

The outdoor Hill Pool will remain open until Sunday, Sept. 29 as long as weather permits. Visit medicinehat.ca/swim for swim times.

Crestwood Recreation Centre remains open Sundays

Historically closed on Sundays, the Crestwood Recreation Centre will continue to operate 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays for the foreseeable future.

Hill Pool Renewal

Once Hill Pool is drained, crews begin maintenance during fall 2024 and spring 2025 and will renew infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life to keep the facility operating efficiently. Work will include new pool circulation components, crack repair, painting, lighting repair/upgrades, fencing, sun shades, and more.
