CIty Council appoints new City Manager

Medicine Hat – City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Ann Mitchell as the new City Manager at their December 19 meeting.

Mitchell will vacate her current position as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Lethbridge County where she has served in the role since 2018. Prior to that, she was the CAO in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout from 2012-2018, the Township of Pelee, Ontario, from 2008-2012 and the Township of Prince, Ontario from 2005-2008. She holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University, as well as a Master Certificate in Municipal Management from the Schulich School of Business at York University, an Executive Diploma in Municipal Management, a Diploma in Municipal Administration, and is a Certified Municipal Officer.

With extensive experience in municipal leadership roles, Mitchell has a solid track record of municipal management success and achievement, and demonstrated strengths in strategic and business planning, policy development, marketing and communications, resource allocation, human resource management, and community stakeholder relations.

Representing the selection committee, Mayor Linnsie Clark expressed confidence in Mitchell’s ability to build strong relationships and effectively lead the City organization.

“We are excited to have Ann bring her years of experience in the role as CAO to the City of Medicine Hat. We are confident that we will grow and thrive under her leadership.”

Mitchell will replace acting City Manager, Dr. Glenn Feltham, who agreed to take on the role in June of 2022 while City Council conducted a search for the permanent City Manager.

“We are grateful for the dedicated service of Dr. Feltham during his time as Interim City Manager. We thank him for his leadership and guidance over the past few months and wish him all the best as he heads back into retirement,” said Mayor Clark.

Mitchell is expected to commence in the new role in early February and shared her thoughts on the new role.
“I am thrilled to join this progressive council and administration team. I look forward to leading this organization in the implementation of council’s vision for the community. We cannot wait to make Medicine Hat our home.”
