City Seeks Feedback on Snow and Ice Control

Medicine Hat – Winter road maintenance affects everyone in Medicine Hat – whether driving, walking, cycling or using public transit. With memories of winter fresh on everyone’s minds, the City is seeking community feedback as part of a review on how it manages snow and ice control.

“While memories of last winter are still fresh, we hope the community will share their thoughts about winter road maintenance with us by attending one of the Open Houses we’re holding,” says Michael Knight, Municipal Engineer with the City’s Municipal Works department. “A survey will be presented at the Open Houses. The feedback and ideas we receive will play an important role throughout our review.”

The last time the City reviewed its snow and ice control practices was in 2011. The goal is to complete this review in early 2020. In addition to listening to the community, the City’s Municipal Works department will also look at current industry best practices and new technology available.

“We hope for a great turnout at the Open Houses,” adds Knight. “This is a starting point for future conversations about the service levels that we provide.”

Open Houses will take place on April 4 at the City’s Municipal Works facility at 188 Kipling Street SE and on April 9 in the Sage Room at the Family Leisure Centre. Both sessions will run from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm
On April 4, the City will launch the Snow and Ice Control Community Survey. The survey will run until April 25, 2019.

Visit the Project Web Page for more information and to take the survey that starts on April 4. The survey link will also be shared on medicinehat.ca and via social media.
