City to observe National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II

Medicine Hat – Following the federal announcement of a national day of mourning to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the City of Medicine Hat will observe the federal holiday on Monday, September 19. The national day of mourning will coincide with the queen’s funeral in London, U.K.

As such, residents are advised of the following impacts to City of Medicine Hat operations:

  • The City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, September 19 is cancelled. The next City Council meeting will take place on Monday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in City Hall.
  • City Hall will be closed to the public.
  • Fire Services dispatch and suppression services will be operating normally but will not be open for public enquiries or prevention services.
  • Parks and recreation facilities will be closed EXCEPT for Big Marble Go Centre, which will be open with holiday hours of 12 to 5 p.m. (previously scheduled bookings will be contacted and worked within those hours as requested and available).
  • Transit service will run as normal.
  • Co-op Place and Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre will be closed to the public.
  • Medicine Hat Police Service will have regular patrol services in place but the front lobby will be closed to the public.
  • Solid waste collection and landfill operations will continue as normal, but offices will be closed to public.

All impacted operations will resume with regular business hours on Tuesday, September 20.
