Community collaboration leads to new disc golf course
Medicine Hat – Medicine Hat disc golf enthusiasts will have another course to choose from starting in the 2025 season. Crews will construct an 18-hole disc golf course in April, with nine holes each in Kin Coulee and on Medicine Hat College’s campus.
Starting Tuesday, April 15, crews will begin installing the Kin Coulee portion of the course. This work is scheduled to be completed within three days, weather permitting. The holes on Medicine Hat College (MHC) are anticipated to be constructed before the end of the month. During this construction, residents are asked to stay clear of shifting work zones when workers are present and obey any posted signage.
The course will be available to play immediately once installation is complete. It will also mark the end of a nearly 29-month journey to have this 18-hole course come to fruition.
The idea was first introduced through a collaboration between the MHC Disc Golf Club and Students’ Association of Medicine Hat College (SAMHC) in November 2022. Their initial intent was to design and construct the course entirely on campus. However, the project was put on hold when capacity constraints prevented the opportunity for more than nine holes. The City of Medicine Hat was then approached by the SAMHC in 2024 to propose the idea of a course split between Kin Coulee and MHC. Approval was given in September 2024, and construction was tentatively set for as soon as both locations were dry enough to minimize the impacts of installation.
Official course maps for each nine-hole location will be available once construction is complete.
The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during this brief disruption in Kin Coulee, as this exciting, new amenity is installed.
