Under Councillor Announcements: 

  • Councillor Knodel offered congratulations and well wishes on behalf of City Council to City Manager Mitchell as she celebrates her one-year anniversary with the City of Medicine Hat on February 6. 

  • Councillor HIrsch offered congratulations to City of Medicine Hat administration for being recipients of the Government Finance Officers Association Triple Crown Award. The Triple Crown is awarded to municipalities that receive all three financial reporting awards; Canadian Award for Financial Reporting; the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting; and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award (for the two-year budget beginning Jan. 1, 2023). 

  • Councillor Sharps shared news of recent opportunities to build relationships with regional partners through council and administration visits to Brooks as well as the grand opening of the new Irvine Community Resource Centre.

Under unfinished business, City Council approved the sale of 532 South Railway Street SE (Former Food Bank Location). The property will be listed “as is, where is” for land value with full disclosure of the City’s available information regarding: 

(a) Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment; 

(b) The Hazardous Materials Assessment; and 

(c) The Facility Condition Assessment Report, 

with an approved member of the Medicine Hat Real Estate Board, as presented. 

Under new business 

  • CIty Council approved a motion to designate Don Knutson as chair of the combined Assessment Review Board until December 31, 2026, and that Council designate Trevor Hennes as alternate to the combined Assessment Review board until December 31, 2024. 

  • City Council gave first reading to Bylaw 4806, a bylaw to amend the Land Use Bylaw to rezone 19 Stober Bay from Highway Commercial District to Mixed Use District. The amendment is meant to allow for the future development of an apartment building on site. A public hearing will occur at the March 4, 2024 meeting of City Council.
