Crestwood, Moose Recreation Centres to reopen in 2022

Medicine Hat – Following the Council decision made on Monday, December 20, 2021, the Crestwood Recreation Centre and Moose Recreation Centre will reopen to the public in the new year.

Both facilities require work to be completed prior to exact opening dates being announced.

The concrete ice slab inside the Moose Recreation Centre needs to be replaced. Staff are drafting a tender to have this work completed, expecting construction to take place throughout the summer months. It’s anticipated the rink would reopen in the fall.

“Crestwood requires the start-up of mechanical systems and staff need to ensure they’re in proper working condition before we begin filling the pool. Staff are actively working on a staffing plan to operate the facility,” said James Will, Director of the Parks & Recreation Department. “We hope to reopen the facility as soon as possible, even if it means reduced hours to start.”

The city is actively looking to hire several part-time lifeguard/instructor positions. For more information, including a list of qualifications, please visit the careers page.

Additional updates on the progress of opening the facility will be shared in the coming weeks.
