Dill-icious and Dairy Free

In 2018, Daniel Kapeta and Amy Kopp created a vegan dill dip out of necessity and never had plans to mass produce the dip, but the pandemic encouraged the couple to consider a new path.

“COVID impacted everyone, including us,” says Kopp. “Daniel and I are personal trainers by trade and were forced to temporarily discontinue our services. We needed to come up with another plan.”

Kapeta and Kopp are both extremely health conscious and have been vegan for years. After searching high and low for a dairy-free dip the couple kept coming up empty handed so decided to create their own.

“We’ve been eating the dill dip for two years now,” says Kopp. “Our friends and family kept encouraging us to sell it so when COVID hit, we thought we’d test the market. It’s been six months now and we can barely keep up with the demand.”

In November, Kapeta and Kopp decided to lease a space to host their operations. With the space for commercial equipment, they are able to produce a thousand dips a day.

Daniel’s Dill Dip is available at 15 retail locations across Medicine Hat, one location in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, and most recently, The North Sports Bar & Grill is the first local restaurant to feature the dill dip on their menu.

“Now that our dip has certified nutritional facts, we can actively start expanding outside of Medicine Hat,” says Kopp. “ˆWe are so grateful for the support the community has given us and are settling in to their new space and commercial kitchen.”

Invest Medicine Hat has been able to provide Daniel’s Dill Dip with provincial connections for market channel and retail distribution.
