Division Avenue re-opened; 2024 construction complete
Back to SearchMedicine Hat – Division Avenue South is now fully open to motorists and pedestrians. Crews completed 2024 construction on the Division Avenue South Rehabilitation project Thursday afternoon.
The project is now complete along Division Ave from 3 Street SW up to and including the intersection of 7 Street SW, and from the intersection of 11 Street SW up to and including Old Cemetery Road hill.
Two portions of the project remain for 2025 – Division Avenue from 7 Street SW up to and including the intersection of 10 Street SW, and a section of the multi-use trail at the bottom of Old Cemetery Road Hill.

This project was originally anticipated to be completed in 2024. However, Division Avenue South contains critical underground infrastructure which needs to be protected and left in service for the duration of the project. As crews worked to avoid disruption of utility service, extreme caution had to be taken when rebuilding this roadway. This, paired with weather-related events, added delays to the anticipated project timeline.
The Division Avenue South Rehabilitation project has benefitted from efficiencies between multiple City departments to address upgrades to road structure, underground utilities, active transportation needs, motorist and pedestrian safety, and more.
