Free Esplanade concert “a gift from the British Army”

Medicine Hat – The Band of the Household Cavalry will be performing a free concert at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre on Saturday, August 31 at 7 p.m. The concert is non-ticketed and is first-come, first-seated.

The Band of the Household Cavalry concert will feature 50 musicians performing on the Esplanade’s main stage under the baton of Director of Music and Officer Commanding, Major Craig Bywater BMus (Hons) MMus. The concert will feature soloists, Cavalry Trumpets, film music and more.

“We are once again pleased to welcome the Band of the Household Cavalry to our community. This free concert is considered a gift from the British Army to the City,” said Aaron Nelson, acting Director of Community Development. “We are honoured to receive this gift and encourage the public to attend this beautiful, regal performance.”

Often seen atop their Cavalry Black horses on the streets of London, steeped in gold while escorting Monarchs, the band will wear the uniforms of the two Household Cavalry regiments during this concert. This band is the largest military band in the United Kingdom and represents the most senior regiments in the British Army. Their history dates back to 1660.

The Band is celebrating 10 years since their amalgamation in September 2014 of the Band of the Life Guards and the Band of the Blues and Royals.
