Hand Crafted Chocolate

After 18 years in Kelowna, Annegret and Robert Jung have relocated their European chocolate shop to Medicine Hat.

Originally, from Germany, the couple first immigrated to Canada in 1997 and settled in Kelowna where they first opened Annegret’s, a fine European Chocolate store. Recently the couple moved the business to Medicine Hat to be closer to family.

“We’ve always loved this community, it’s a small “big” city and a very safe place to own a store,” says Robert. “We are excited to offer our handcrafted chocolates and gelato in Medicine Hat and will also continue to fulfill orders for our valued customers in Kelowna.”

Annegret’s career and love for chocolate began after some time spent on Vancouver Island working at a chocolate production factory. In order to learn more, she fine-tuned her skills in her native country with known chocolatier, Robert Oppeneneder.

Offering high quality chocolates made with the finest ingredients imported from Europe, Annegret’s creates truffles, chocolates sculptures, chocolate bars and personalized gifts that are handmade fresh daily. In the spring, summer and fall, the menu features authentic gelato also made in-house.   

“You know if it’s high quality chocolate if it melts in your hand,” explains Annegret. “We do not use preservatives or wax to coat the chocolate. Even our packaging is carefully chosen to ensure the chocolate is kept fresh and maintains its original shape and taste.”

The couple is currently working day and night to stock their shelves for the holidays training their four new staff members.

“The pandemic has made it difficult to employ a full team,” says Robert. “We are hopeful we can hire three more staff in the New Year and look forward to making this our new home.”
