HAT Smart launches 2018 Residential Incentive Program
Back to SearchMedicine Hat – The popular and award-winning HAT Smart program announces the launch of its 2018 Residential Incentive Program, with energy conservation and renewable energy savings for City of Medicine Hat utility customers.
“The new provincial rebate program was introduced last year, raising awareness about energy efficiency and increasing interest in the local HAT Smart program,” said Daygan Fowler, Environmental Sustainability Officer with the City’s Utilities Business Development and Support department. “The incentives for this year were designed to consider the rebates being offered through Energy Efficiency Alberta, allowing residents to take advantage of both funding sources for even more savings. The 2018 program offers new incentives with the return of a popular home construction program.”
The new Air Sealing program will help residents seal air leaks within their homes and is designed to complement the incentives for insulation and windows being offered through the provincial program. A rebate will also be offered for energy efficient clothes dryers, which can also be coupled with the provincial rebate for energy efficient washing machines.
Residents will also see the return of HAT Smart’s program that offers funding for the installation of solar panels on homes. In 2018, HAT Smart will be matching the rebate currently offered through Energy Efficiency Alberta and customers will be able to stack the two funding sources.
“In 2018, the City is also bringing back a program aimed at new home construction,” added Fowler. “With the variety of new incentives that are available through the province right now, we wanted offer something to encourage residents to building more efficient homes. We would love to see someone use this funding to build a net-zero home in our community.”
Finally, the popular Scratch & Win program will continue through 2018. This program offers utility customers the chance to win back the cost of small ticket energy conservation items, such as energy efficient lightbulbs, programmable thermostats, and block heater timers.
The HAT Smart program is funded through collection of an Environmental Conservation Charge with a total of $210,000 allocated for the 2018 program. The program raises awareness and provides education about the importance of reducing our environmental impact and supports renewable energy projects throughout the city.
