Work to upgrade irrigation at Hillside Cemetery has commenced

Medicine Hat – Work to upgrade the irrigation system on the Northeast side of Hillside Cemetery has commenced.

This project is expected to take approximately seven weeks to complete and while the cemetery will remain open, there will be temporary road closures and reduced foot access. The project includes landscaping, installation of new irrigation lines and sprinklers, upgrades, and renovations to the Columbarium, and addition of a memorial wall.

Why are we doing the work?

  • The irrigation system at Hillside Cemetery has passed its life expectancy and needs to be updated to ensure the landscaping and fauna can continue to be irrigated effectively.

Additional work in the area:

  • Improvements will also be made to the Scatter Garden which includes the removal and replacing of mulch, the addition of flowers, general clean-up, and some landscaping. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to this location.
  • Roads inside the cemetery will be asphalted.

Signage will be placed in the area. Please allow crews room to work.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding as these necessary improvements are completed.
