Stringam LLP cut the ribbon on their new law office on May 23, 2019. The two story, red brick building sits on a formerly vacant piece of commercial real estate on Gershaw Drive, a stone’s throw from Medicine Hat’s downtown district.

“We thought it was a good parcel of commercial real estate,” says Kevin Kurtz, regional managing partner at Stringam. “When the timing was right, we broke ground.”

With a growing staff of 28 legal and administrative professionals, the Medicine Hat team expanded to the point where they no longer had enough space in their previous location. They needed a building that accommodated their current staff and workload and provided the opportunity to grow and expand.

The company provides a wide range of services, including family and divorce, surface rights, corporate and immigration. The firm has offices in small centres throughout Alberta, including Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, and Brooks.

They broke ground in March 2018, with New Rock Developments as the general contractor. In May 2019, staff moved into the 15,076 square foot office at 402 3rd Ave SW in May 2019. The new location puts Stringam closer to downtown’s cluster of professional services, including the provincial court and Court of Queens Bench.

Architect Robert Hirano of RKH Architecture designed the law office to be consistent with other buildings in the surrounding neighbourhood and downtown commercial buildings. The exterior is solid red brick with Manitoba limestone, paying homage to Medicine Hat’s historic brick industry.

The lot south of Stringam’s new office is for sale, with the company hoping for a buyer with a vision to design a building similar to the architectural features of their new office.
