Incoming rain: River to rise, risk stays low
The City of Medicine Hat is prepared but anticipates no significant effects from rising river levels due to incoming heavy rainfall across southern Alberta.
Heavy rain events are occurring across Southern Alberta over approximately the next three days. The City’s primary focus is the potential for river flooding based on the rainfall occurring on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.
Based on data provided, the South Saskatchewan River will rise in Medicine Hat next week. However, at this point, the Provincial River Forecasting Centre anticipates it will be contained within the banks.

Tree-fi-fo-fum
Leinweber Park just got a giant boost to its tree count this week!
We planted 106 new trees as part of a replanting effort, after removing some trees last year that had succumbed to prolonged drought conditions. This replanting initiative was a targeted restoration effort to enhance the park’s landscape and support ongoing recreational use.
So, what goes into a replanting effort?
In this case, given the presence of disc golf in the park, our team thoughtfully selected planting locations to complement and enhance the disc golf experience.
We also carefully chose a mix of species—Elm, Maple, Linden, Oak, Pine, and Larch—to ensure the best chance of survival in our challenging climate.
