New Lease On Life
September 2, 2021
One year after moving from Vancouver, Prav and Belle Grewal purchased a two-level, 24,000 square foot building at 410 South Railway in the heart of Medicine Hat.
“We fell in love with Medicine Hat’s beauty, and the future of the city looks bright,” says Belle. “This is where we want to raise our family.”
Since their move from the west coast, they’ve witnessed a variety of unique new businesses open downtown, while Medicine Hat Towne Square has officially broken ground.
The couple say they have also been impressed by the downtown revitalization efforts from the City.
Indeed, the City of Medicine Hat offers a number of development incentives, including the Waterfront District Vibrancy Incentive and the Waterfront District Housing Incentive, to encourage residents and business owners to be a part of the downtown revitalization and to create an energetic area together.
“When we saw the city’s plans for the downtown core, we knew we somehow wanted to be a part of it,” says Belle, referencing plans for the Waterfront District. “Medicine Hat is a charming community, and we’ve noticed people really support locally owned businesses.”
The couple is excited about the potential in the new purchased building, which offers large windows on both floors that allow natural light into the space, with the top floor affording up-close views of the historic CP Railway Station.
They see an opportunity for up to four new businesses to take up residency at 410 South Railway – a nightclub, restaurant, dance or fitness studio, or office space are all possibilities.
“Downtown is a high-traffic area,” says Prav. “There are neighbourhoods that are in walking distance, it’s connected to the trail system where people can bike or walk, and the drive is less than 15-minutes from anywhere in the city.”
There are 50 parking stalls available and the two say they are willing to work with the business owners on how they’d like to renovate the space.
“Purchasing this building and inviting fellow entrepreneurs to open a space in our building, while offering them support and encouragement is how we’d like to contribute and be part of our community,” says Belle.
