Medicine Hat - October 18, 2017

The City is in the process of cancelling the State of Local Emergency as crews have restored power to all but a handful of customers following the wind storm last night. The City stood down the Emergency Operations Centre at 1:30 PM today.

Electrical crews were able to restore Redcliff’s power by approximately 2:30 p.m. today. At the time of this update, crews are working to restore power to 26 customers in various parts of our service area. There may be some intermittent power outages as crews continue to work to restore services and repair infrastructure over the coming days.

The Big Marble Go Centre was closed this morning and is now open, including the pool and the gym.

City departments such as Electrical Distribution, Parks, Municipal Works and Environmental Utilities are now carrying out recovery plans for their areas of responsibility. Clean up and repair work will continue over the next few days.

Please give crews room to work as they repair infrastructure and clean up broken trees and branches from parks and residential areas. Homeowners are reminded that the City’s Waste Management Facility accepts self-hauled debris and yard waste free of charge.

We remind everyone to continue to be safe around downed lines or if you suspect an electrical issue. Stay at least 10 meters back. Call 403-529-8260 to report any electrical issues directly.

Notify Me Now was used throughout this event to communicate with our customers. This is a good reminder to register for this free app and receive information or urgent alerts during an emergency. Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Cypress County residents can register on the City’s website on the Emergency Management home page.

Thank you everyone for your patience. Our thanks also go out to our dedicated and hard-working City crews and staff, and to the contractors and others who are helping during this recovery phase.
